Default MY96 engine for swap into Cressida

I’m getting ready to pull an engine out of a 1996 LS400 for use in a MX83 Cressida and am looking for some information on what all I should take for easiest install.

my understanding is late ‘96 manufactured models had an immobilizer unit that requires key, ecu, harness, and engine to all be from the same car to work harmoniously. I’m confirming date manufactured hopefully before end of day today.

my plans as of right now are to take the engine, ecu, harness and ignition+key from the same car to prevent hiccups when I transplant this into a mx83 Cressida. Is there anything else I should have on my radar to take from the donor car while I’m in there? Thanks in advance - I attempted to search however can’t seem to find this function off my phone platform.

Don't forget the transponder but you probably consider that a part of the ignition. You have all the mounting, transmission and all that figured out?

I have the basics figured out. I’m using a Z32 NA trans as I got two of them for almost nothing and am using 1 in a q45 manual swap. Having both of my cars run the same trans that’s known to handle plenty of power will help keep the parts bins in my garage to a minimum, ha!

collins has an adapter plate for this - I still need to reach out to them though as they don’t specify whether this setup allows for using off the shelf 300zx clutch and flywheel parts.

xcessive makes 1 piece driveshafts for some of the more common Cressida swaps but can make a special driveshaft in house after being provided some measurements. I’m using their motor mounts so that helps a lot for their specs.

power goals are just to keep the 1uz completely stock for now as it’s more than enough for a car I’m hoping finished is around the 2500-2800lb mark. This is just a build for personal enjoyment so I don’t have to meet any sort of regulations or rule book and in my area am exempt from emissions for a MY91 Cressida.

Just wanted to chime a for your swap. I had an MX73 before this LS and really liked the car. Congrats on keeping yours on the road to show old school Toyota.

you’re just referring to making sure I grab the matching key for the ignition correct? If so, yes, I am grabbing that and likely taking the gauge cluster too. I’ve read threads regarding retrofitting these into my chassis and it truly makes everything seem less as if it is still in an LS. Since I am taking anything not necessary for the car to move under its own power I’m really trying to see if I can get away with just deleting the Cressida harness all together and running everything straight from the LS harness revamped after unnecessaries are deleted.

I appreciate that RA! My love for Cressidas has really gone full circle as my first introduction to them was an ex girlfriend’s brother having three of them in his driveway and I thought they were hideous. Some 10ish years later I’ve grown to appreciate what they’re capable of. The 1uz is a no brained compared to the factory 7mge - lighter, more powerful, and plentiful + a documented enough swap that companies like xcessive make off the shelf motor mounts and other parts. Others have proven you can bolt in s13 suspension and FRS/BRZ diffs to really take it to the next level.

No, there is a chip (usually behind the lighted ring) that interacts with they key if you don't have this the engine won't start.

Ah, that’s exactly the kind of stuff I’m looking to know so I don’t miss anything! Thanks! Chances are once I’m done pulling the parts I need the seller is crushing the rest of the car.
