Speedometer incorrect
Hello everyone,
Would anyone know what drives/outputs signal for the speedometer? I have a 2000 LS400 and it is reading very low. The needle comes up from 0 once I get to about 40mph and from there, continues to read about 40mph low.
I'm assuming the ECU is getting a correct signal, I can reset my average speed while driving and the first value is my true speed. I would say the cluster is just dying but the needle still moves, just 40mph too late.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
-Dawson

Another bit of info to add. I have put maybe 15 miles on the car since this started, no cel yet. Car drives fine, shifts fine, cruise control works. One thing however is that the car did stall at the light the other day which it has never done. I may start checking grounds.
Please let me know if anyone has any ideas or could tell me how the speedo works on a '00.
Thanks

There are a lot of threads about the lubricant for the needles causing them to be sticky on 1998-2000. I can't find the one I remember reading, but here is one I found after a quick Google search:

I don't have any personal experience with the UCF2x models, but I believe this could be related to the issue you're seeing.
There's a few threads here somewhere, and at least one for the lubricant, which may have been called "fluid." Some digging around should find them

Does the odometer work fine?
If so, sensors and the ABS/TRC/VSC computer are OK but the cluster meter alone is not OK.
