Replacing the 1uzfe vvti on my 2000 LS400 and I'm not sure how to get this large accordion wire bundle unhooked? I already disconnected the 3 attachments to the ecu and have unhooked the other bits beneath the glove box. Do I just yank on it? I've been holding back on brute force because I'm assuming the wire insulation may be a bit brittle.
Press/pull the boot away from the firewall and go from there. It helps to package and wrap the connectors with electrical tape to minimize chance of damage.
i agree to just try and peel the boot away first to see if there is any sealant there used from the factory. years of not moving and heat cycles may make it feel like it's glued (it may very well be, i'm not sure).

There is not adhesive but like you say it can seem that way, rubber tends to bond/fuse to metal after years of pressure and contact.
Thanks everyone. There did appear to be a glue of some sort on the interior side. The problem was, the inside boot diameter is larger than the actual firewall hole. I was able to wedge in a couple screw drivers and slowly pull that large diameter boot outward to the engine. No inside work was needed; just needed to help the harness get thru without getting caught.
