Default Replace rear knuckle/hub

Almost in the middle of replacing right rear hub on my 1997 ls400. All bolts are loose however cant figure out how to remove upper ball joint front knuckle. Has anyone else figured this out. I have read so many posts and none seem to pertain to 2nd gen (95-00) in particular.
??? Do I need to remove half axle shaft and control arm....then bench remove. I.e. use puller to remove axle from hub....seems only way to get to the upper ball joint nut.
im at the point ...and cant seem to get upper control arm bolts/nuts loose.
All this to replace rear wheel bearing...no press and found a complete hub assembly to R & R.... so much for easy...

All bolts on lower assembly loose

Used carrier
Any help would be appreciated !!

If I'm remembering right, for 93-94 the manual says to remove lower shock bolt and remove the whole upper control arm with the knuckle and put it in a vise to remove the ball joint nut. I was reading about my rear wheel bearings and hub about 6 months ago. Sure looks the same on yours.

Thanks for all the support. Especially from deanshark ! I finally got the upper control arm bolts free and with the aid of trusty puller...removed hub
proceeded to remove upper ball joint with vise....R&R the nused hub... now to put it together,,,
ONLY WAY TO DO THIS... take special care in removing all bolts from bushings....ya don’t want to buy em if ya don’t need em.
will post pics if anyone else wants to attempt this.

caution: You really need air tools to break free control arm bolts as their is no room or enough time to turn the nuts off...

UPDATE : February29, had new bearing. OEM pressed in and new seals as well..
now to R & R the hub knuckle again.

I hear noise from time to time from my front passenger side and wonder if its the bearing. Good luck with everything. I'd end up at the shop for sure.....

my 97 had 300k and it had original rear hub bearings with no noise. But it was an AZ car all its life until the last two years, so the roads and conditions are much better I suppose.

Well all is good in Lexusland.... rear hub bearing ( what a PITA )..replaced...original hub had pressed bearing NSK type.

I was shocked.... but these bearings usually go well past 400K and solid. I Replaced right rear and was thinking of the left side..... I might not...as its quiet as a church mouse ....

How did you got about Removing the springs and clips inside the hub assembly? Last picture bottom right, where the brass looking clips are at. How did you remove these? If I can get these off I can take the knuckle and old bearing to a shop for a press out press in ordeal. Thank you

Does the new bearing need additional grease?
