Default 2000 LS400 Making scraping and clicking noise when turning over

For a few years I have had a 2000 LS400. Very reliable for the most part had to do general maintenance to it which is expected saying that I just hit over 330,000 miles. Since I've had the car occasionally when I start it it has been making a scraping clicking noise briefly, but now it has been doing it more often. In the past that used to happen maybe once every other month and when it would happen I turn the car off and turn it back on again and it was fine now it happens every startup but it's not consistent it just does it for a few seconds and goes away. Could that be my starter starting to go?

since we can not hear your noise, all we can do is guess, why not seek some professional help and discuss their comments with us?

How many miles have you driven your LS?
What mileage did you last replace starter?
Battery in good condition? (have you had it tested?)
Are your battery terminals clean and not loose?

Default Update

Now the car will not turn over. I got the alternator and belt replaced 2 months ago and battery is fine. I bought the car 3 years ago with 225,000 miles and I put over 100,000 miles on it myself. I can't record the sound for all to hear since it won't start, that would have been a good idea but it is what it is. Having some friend mechanics coming over to look at at it.

Yep it has been confirmed that it is the starter. Unfortunately it's time for me to say goodbye to my Lexus it was very reliable but with the starter and timing belt due soon too much work for so many miles that are on the car.

Sorry to hear that bad news. At least she lived a long life, and you getting the last 100K out of it aint bad. I don't know your plans about getting rid of it but try posting it on Craigslist. Ya never know, there might be some kid out there looking for a project. That's if it's in decent enough shape otherwise.

Yeah it is sad but I can't complain too much. A good amount of miles out of it. Good idea on putting it on Craigslist I called a couple places to remove the car and they only want to give you $100 or $130 for it.

Oh yea some kid needs it. Or a father-son project to teach a young mechanic. List it as parts or fix for $800 and let them offer you $500. Everybody makes out good.
