Default ‘94 LS400 Electical System Outage

I have a 1994 LS400 with 150K miles on it. My kid was replacing the battery and installed it backwards. Sparks flew, and it killed the electric system.

The car starts fine, there is just no electical at all—can’t shift, no locks, windows, etc.

I’m the farthest thing from a car guy and love
in a rural area where I don’t have a mechanic close who works on Lexus.

Im guessing it’s a fuse issue, but I’m not sure where to start and am hoping not to have to just replace all of them one at a time trying to find the answer.

Any help would be appreciated.

Start by checking the alternator 60 amp fuse.

See page 216 in your owners manual (Alternator fuse is #8):

https://drivers.lexus.com/t3Portal/d...U/pdf/6-4.pdf#[8,{%22name%22:%22XYZ%22},null,null,null]

A diagram should also be on the underside of your engine bay fuse box cover. The alternator fuse is labeled ENGINE.

While you are at it, also check the other fuses to make sure they are okay.

If needed, you can look up the full digital owners manual for your car here (1993 is the same):

After 25 years it makes sense to replace every fuse in the system. Use electrical contact cleaner and toothbrush to clean all fuse clips/sockets.

Replace also fusible links..which are rectangular color-coded higher amp fuses with a clear plastic window with Amperages hot-stamped.

Take a count and order requisite number of types and amperages.

Digi-key is less expensive than auto parts store

Buy Littelfuse brand on bladed fuses.
