Made by a South Korean company that's been around for 71 years.

Ya get what you pay for. I personally stick to Continental\Michelin for all-seasons. Hankook RS4's, Michelin Super Sport\P4S or Perelli for summer tire. Michelin X-ice for winters, Bridgestone Blizzak a runnerup.

Sorry, see my post edit. Others will have different opinions, but I don't mess around with tires. I'll pay 100+ per tire for a higher quality brand.

That's my personal opinion of how to approach the only thing keeping you on the road.

Which one would be good for California?

Socal or North? If you never see freezing temps and don't plan on road trips to places where they do, then just get a summer-only tire from one of the above listed brands.

If you do plan on road tripping or don't want that limitation, then get a all season from the above listed brands.

My only experience with Nexen were on a client’s Mercedes S series. He got tired of spending a fortune on Michelin tires and put a set of Nexen on. I used to drive it a lot and did not see, feel, or experience any issues with the car in all kinds of weather. That's a good price also—Walmart only has one tire cheaper than that, and I’ve never even heard of the manufacturer.

Tires differentiate themselves at the limit. I.E in a sporty setting, or more commonly, in emergency situations. Braking, evasive maneuvers, etc.

I have the michelin premier a/s on my spring through fall set of wheels and those are pretty good, I was looking for the mxv4 since that seems to be established as a very good tire but they don't make it in 225/60-16 anymore

I use the blizzak ws80 in winter since those are mounted on my original slightly more scuffed up wheels and I'm happy with those, except they're a bit noisy and excessively squishy for some situations

They are fine tires. They arent top tier but I wouldn't be concerned about having them on your car. They can be a little noisy depending on the road surface. Korean tires are getting very good for the money.

Central, trips to beach are rare but happen, trips to socal are more frequent due to family and friends. I'm ok with all seasons.

It's funny, our 98 and 99 RAV4s are so noisy I don't even listen to the radio at highway speeds. When I'm in the Lexus it's like being in a vault. Probably wouldn't matter what tires were on it!
