Default Swapping First-gen 1UZ into 89 Land Cruiser LJ73

Hey all, New guy here, but not new guy in the toyota world (not anymore at least).

So later this year I will be swapping a 1UZ from a 1991 LS400 into my imported 1989 Land Cruiser LJ73. I had imported my Cruiser from Spain back in June, and had owned it for a longer than a year and didn't have any real issues with it until after I had imported it. In august the little 2L-T head took it's final breath. Instead of finding a used (good) head or ordering a brand new head from toyota, I decided to go the route of doing an engine swap, did some research and found the 1UZ to be a good candidate, apart from the diesel -> petrol conversion.

So fast forward to November/December, I bought a donor running 1991 LS400, and has been running strong except the starter (of course), found a company that already makes the bellhousing, flywheel and the rest of the adapters to go from the 1UZ to the R151F. Everything is looking positive except for time, haha (I'm a Dad to a little 2 year old girl, so free time is mostly taken up by her and my wife, no regrets).

Current time just accumulating things to get ready to do the swap and daily driving the LS400 until I get 90% of the parts.

Just wanted to share with you guys the process of what i'm doing
Also looking for a Shop manual for the 1UZ to include wiring diagrams.

this is one of the few ways one could possibly improve a land cruiser!

wonderful to see someone take on a project like this!
I've seen and drove older cars with the 1UZ and it definitely changes the character of a car, wheel spin and all, so i am curious to see how it will do in a land cruiser.
please show us pics of the land cruiser too.

Agreed, although this imported as a diesel, i'd rather have swapped a 1hz in, but due to the head cracking on the 2L-T the engine swap came sooner than expected. A 1UZ is just so much cheaper, and parts are readily available plus it will make it more daily drivable especially on highway speeds.

I'm almost sure there will be wheel spin, seeing on how i'll be pairing it to the stock Manual (R151f) on the Cruiser already. I feel like the 4 speed automatic that comes with the LS400 is really restrictive.

There's a things i want to do prior to pulling the engine from the ls400, find the misfire i think it's the #1 or #2, bad injector... They're old injectors all of them, i need them cleaned and rebuilt if needed. I also want to do the starter and the cold start injector. The starter is definitely going bad with it randomly not wanting to crank; and the cold start injector seeming to be going bad from cold start it will take a few tries to get it started.

Also want to add the PO did a tune up, new dizzy's and all spark, when he was trying to trace the misfire.

I'll be taking video of the whole work i do during the swap, I'll also be updating here and on ih8Mud (Land Cruiser forums).
