1993 LS400 ocasional hard starting
Hey everyone and Happy 2019.
I have a new problem with my LS. Sometimes (2 out of 5) the car just doesn't start although it turns over and everything. If I leave it for a while it will start right up as normal and work perfectly with no indications of any problems, accelerate smoothly etc, etc. No codes from the ECU either. Just that one odd time it will not start.
I know I have a starter motor problem but it really doesn't need any revolutions to start when it does, so I feel "maybe" the starter motor is not the issue. Oh and it idles much too fast which makes me think about the IACV but I'm not sure if that would cause the starting problem.
Any helpful ideas from the members?
Thanks in advance.

Try holding the throttle open a bit and cranking the engine and set if it starts up, if it does the iac is the problem if it doesn't something else is the issue possible temp sensor causing the injectors not to open enough on cold start

Hi Bob, sound ideas. I will try the open throttle thing and report back. I admit I do have temp sensor suspicions but I was doing some other investigations before zeroing in on that one. Appreciate your time to answer me and willingness to help.

Well using Bob's suggestion I think I narrowed the problem to the IACV so I went ahead and bought one from Ebay. The question I have now relates to the gasket for same. The old gasket is unusable. Is it ok if I make another one using gasket material?
