Are the 60 dollar power steering pumps safe to use? the ones on autozone are pretty expensive.

Stay away from Autozones DURALAST brand. Not just PS pumps but basically anything with the name Duralast on it.

No. Not unless new OEM overstock.

Buy a new pump from the dealer.

The PS Pump is in such a bad location, that you are better off getting a quality OEM pump, if you can afford it. If you can't, then you would have no choice but to take the gamble. Importantly, LS400 pump don't take PS fluid. They take ATF. That can make a huge difference. Please correct me if I am wrong.

The R&R is a big consideration, but sometimes price is the biggest.
I've heard negative things about using starters, alternators, etc from Autopart stores, especially if they are difficult to R&R.
I checked the rockauto site and their cheapest pump is $72 with a $50 core charge for a up front total of $122, but it is manufactured by Lares and I've never heard of that company.
The owner's manual lists Dextron II or III Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) for the power steering system.
It is soooo important to use the correct fluid in a vehicle's different systems, which can be found in the owner's manual or thankfully for us at the drivers.lexus.com/lexusdrivers site.

You might consider researching "How to" posts on this forum.
Cleaning the internal strainer and replacing the o-rings may be all that is needed.
But you may discover that a leaking hose also needs replacement.
