Default 1999 LS temp problem?

Temp gauge rests ever so slightly below the 4th line.
Never budges unless it's reaching this temp from start or from cool.
what could be causing this?
is this too high?

Mine reads like Spuds..
The temp sending unit is easy to replace if you've not done so already.

I have gone through a big challenge with mine doing this on a 98. I have ordered a fan clutch and will be replacing that soon. I could stop my fan with a piece of cardboard when hot and spin the fan the other direction. Shouldn't be able to do that. My 98 creeped up to red over about 3 years, and dealer said it was not running hot and actually a communication error between the combination meter and the gauge in the cluster. I think they missed the fan clutch. If this doesn't fix it then I am looking at a new radiator. Pretty common to my understanding. Its odd because the dealer said it always reads 185 degrees on the scanner when running, but that seems strange. I would think it would have a range.

mine is where Legender and Spuds are but I also had to replace my radiator back the first of the year, because it was not passing ALL the coolant thru, it had internal blockage (and I didnt know it......) so it stayed higher than normal, and I almost ruined my engine.... have it checked with thermal reader all 4 sections....

First repair I did was the radiator because the neck snapped off in its hose.
I'm trying to get into the thermostat housing because I would imagine it's still the original thermostat. The bottom nut is stripped clean so I'm having to fight with that today.
I feel like I'm not getting adequate coolant flow.
Probably some air in the system too because I can't get the fill bolt off.

Can you post a pic of the stripped nut on the therm housing?
I'm guessing here but the previous owner may have had a leaky thermostat issue which he tried to remedy by over torquing (stripping) the nut. Who knows what type of gasket making goop he may have slathered on the housing, trying to stop a leak, which squeezed out internally thus partially blocking proper flow through the thermostat.

Best one I could get. There's the two visible ones at the top and this one at the bottom. No matter what I use, it slips clean off.

I don't remember, is that a 10mm or 12mm nut? If it's a 10mm you can try a 3/8" socket which is basically 9.5mm. You may have to lightly tap it into place but it just might be snug enough to turn the nut...?

There are threads here discussing raising front of car to burp the system.
