Hello Everyone.
Regarding my 89 Celsior.
Does anyone know what these globes are called?
Do they come as a complete unit like depicted here, or just the globe and you wind the wires around the old plastic holder?
Its one of the tiny projector globes in the top of the dash surround / bezel thing. Approximately 12mm base X 15mm high. This one was my Door Adjar light.
If I can sort out what they are called, I can search for them.
Sorry I can help you with this one but will be taking not of the part name if someone can. Its always the smallest things that are the must frustrating.
Thanks anyway. I've got hold of some small LED globes. I am going to try and unwind the broken globe and wind in a 5mm LED (and resister). Will let you know if it works.
Solved. I pulled the LED and resister out of a T5 LED replacement light. I cant say its really pretty, I had to modify the mount slightly, but it doesn't look bad and it works.
And it was really really cheep - and I now have plenty of spares.
I used this item (sold for $1 AUD for 10, but it did take 2 weeks to get here (from China)) https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_nkw=182531093938.
There is one strange thing. Its ever so slightly on all the time. You have to look for it, but evidently there is some power running through that light all the time.
My modified light is currently on the AIR BAG light position, so its the AIRBAG light that's just slightly on even with no keys in the car.
Thinking about it, I should have tried another location to see if its an issue with all the projector lights and only showing up as that's the only one that's an LED.
Well, I have a feeling it may be the caps on the dashboard that's doing it. I know they (or at least some) are stuffed and need to be replaced as my dimmer does not work, and I have other issues that are indicative of stuffed caps in the dashboard circuit board.
I'm waiting on a ESR Meter to arrive so I can go test all the caps in the dashboard and replace the stuffed ones.
This weekend I replace all the caps in the ECU. Wish me well! LOL.
Nice one! Well done. I did the ECU myself also even tho it turned out to NOT be the cause of the issues I was having at the time. Wasnt too hard at all for me, and I had never soldered before. Just take your time.
Thanks Guys.
OK. Things get stranger. Now my dimmer is working! Seems like it needed the bulb (or LED) in the circuit for the dimmer to work.
???
Anyway, its another thing off the list of things to fix!.
