Default 1999 ls400 won’t start mystery

I have a 99’ with 284,000 miles. It developed a quiet knock. Had correct levels of oil and coolant. This is my daily so I couldn’t not drive it. The knock deminished after a synthetic oil change. After driving it home one day it completely stalled and would not start. If I let it sit for several hours it will start but only for a few seconds and very ruff. There are no error codes. I changed the oil again! And there was no metal fragments. The plugs spark. It didn’t even run off of starting fluid. I discovered the fuel pump was shot. I replaced it. I checked the vvti oil valves they work. I replaced all vacuume lines. I checked the compression on the cylinders and they all hold. Help me what is wrong with my car

edit: check engine light no codes. Timing belt, timing tensioner was replaced 5k miles ago.

Do you you have another key to try? I'm wondering if the transponder key or receiver may be an issue.

Have you checked fuel filters when the fuel pump was changed? I worry about those are badly clogged. In order to distinguish the problem, I suggest you to try the starting fluid.

Regarding the ECU, as far as I have experienced, a 99-00 ECU tends to cause the AT shift problem before the engine management becomes strange. If you don't have any AT issue, what you need to do first is to try to spray the starting fluid. Most of parts cleaners will do. Spray it from the vacuum tube used for the brake booster.

So we had this problem once.... could not get it to start, not even with starting fluid. Ended up sending it to Davenport automotive in Plano and they got it started/running without replacing anything. And it worked fine ever since. Only charged 1 hour labor as once they started it could not get it to repeat. I believe they thought it was flooded and held the accelerator to the floor while cranking to shut of the FI and let the gas clear out. I don't know this for fact, but know I couldn't get it started and they could.
Sorry... not much help.
