Default Transmission fluid for 2000 LS400. Did the dealership screw me?

Hey guys I decided to drop the pan on my 2000 LS despite it having no maintenance time schedule .

i was gonna change the Filter and gasket...and put 2 more quarts fluid in it for the lost fluid dropping the pan.
The fluid looked dark and not clean.

Car has180k

When I went to the Toyota dealership and asked them for the proper fluid for my LS they gave me type TLS. It appears Toyota no longer has their own brand?

Did they give me the wrong fluid? The bottle looks different from the black toyotabottles I got 5 years ago or so.

Transmission seems to act fine with no issues with that old fluid in it but felt the fluid should be swapped for fresh fluid like I’m doing.

Never heard of TLS fluid but a quick google search finds a document showing a compatibility chart.

It states TLS 10106-042K is compatible with 1990-2000 LS400's AND 2001-2006 LS430"s

TLS-LV - 10114-042B compatible with 2007-2012 LS460's and 2008-2012 LS600HL

Hopefully someone with more knowledge on the subject will chime in.

I believe Toyota T-IV ATF is still around. the Idemitsu Type-TLS ATF has been around for a few years now but it's effects and difference are unknown to me.
it could very well be a replacement fluid but I am weary and would be adamant to find T-IV elsewhere.

some quick research shows that this new stuff meets the T-IV/JWS3309 spec so don't loose sleep over using it.

i recently purchased Toyota Type IV tranny fluid from Sun Toyota in Tampa, FL area.

Probably just depends on the dealership you go to, maybe some decide to stock the TLS fluid instead of genuine toyota fluid because of cost, who knows.

I've personally never heard of TLS tranny fluid though, I would imagine if the dealership uses it, it's probably fine. I personally stick with toyota genuine transmission fluid though.

I guess it makes sense to eventually phase T-IV out as the cars slowly die off. If it becomes too hard to find there's always Mobil1 3309 for us die hards.

Ayep. Perfectly good going back to the mother ship and raiding their oil stock before it gets a designer label and quadruple the price.
$62.00/12 quarts last purchase . . .

BTW I just found out my new (to me) Porsche Cayenne takes Type T-IV / JWS3309. Well, it is specified to use the 3309, which we know to be the same as Toyota Type T-IV.

As for today, I don't find any product named TLS at the Toyota.jp site. I still can find T-IV there though.

Acts just fine? Yeah that could be said if you used off the shelf hydraulic oil too. The real test is how long will it last.

just paying labour to the local shop that specializes in toyota/lexus.You can definitely save a few $$.

Yes
T-IV is 3309 repackaged by Toyota.
