Mystery Box under Armrest

In my quest to find what's sliding around in the heater assembly (possibly), I removed the box under the armrest to find this:

I understand it's the remote locking receiver. Thing is, it was entirely loose and liable to move around! Also, the bracket was attached but only on one side, and the middle pin of the connector was not even fully in. In short, this seems like a badly-put-in replacement of the original, although I have no idea where/how exactly it should be fitted. What I cannot fathom is how it can even work - given that it's effectively in a Faraday cage, and also right on the transmission tunnel which itself is a ground-plane.

Is this something the dealer puts in, according to the local market? (Here in the UK the channel allocations might be different from the US.)

Or, if it is an aftermarket replacement, I guess all of the keys would have had to be reprogrammed.....

It's now wrapped in foam, down beside the tunnel slightly. It seems to work - and by the way - the mystery noise remains.

Any clues?

Very likely some quick aftermarket install job, even the old phone cars don't have anything like that in that area.

this is a euro/uk specific part, could have been a dealer/port addition when the vehicle was sold.

Thanks guys...

So on US versions, where is the receiver for the remote locking?

I think this may also incorporate the alarm impact sensor (in which case is the orientation critical?)....

As found, it was placed flat.
