Default What does your thermostat run at?

Recently took mine in for over heating, the shop told me that the radiator fan was barely spinning anymore, and that they were able to stop it with a 2 fingers. Now the car runs a smudge past the half way mark is this normal Just for a visual I have taken a picture off the internet and this is what mine runs as at almost exactly regardless of how the car is driving.

Mine runs just below the half way mark. Maybe your gauge cluster isn't working correctly rather than the car overheating. Something to think about.
Good Luck!

The coolant temperature needle is at a higher point on the scale than before?

When they say the fan was barely spinning, do they say the fan clutch has failed or the thermostat is not working properly, or both?

What about water pump seal integrity?

Did anyone pressure test the system?

Whatever you do, replacing a 20 year old thermostat wouldn't.be wrong.

Use OEM thermostat, gasket and any necessary FIPG...DO NOT use aftermarket anything here.

If your fan clutch is the culprit, , also replace the fan bracket bearing...again use OEM Aisin brand for these areas....if you use other aftermarket brands,, expect the worst.

For warranty purposes, if employing a shop to perform work, direct them in writing as to which components will be used...otherwise they tend to buy Chinese made over Japanese to increase their profits...

Default OEM thermostat and gasket p/n

I just replaced these on my 1998 LS400. Bought from Lexus dealer. Posting pictures.
The old thermostat was 19 yo. Rubber was missing on one side and pulling away on the other. Temp stamped on it is 82 C.
