I don't care what anyone says, but a $2000 LS400 is going to be a project car, and without your own tools and means to maintain and repair it yourself, a huge money pit.

Unless you're able to do most/all your own repairs, do not buy it. Even so, your time is better spent dealing with your college studies.

At this point in your life, get whatever your parents recommend, they'll be more inclined to help you out with the maint. and repairs...

I second djamps position. Once you get down below $3k in a price point for a decent Toyota, you're just buying something to work on. In the $3-$4k range you might not need to do immediate large repairs if you've done your homework, but less than that price point you're just asking for potentially multiple repairs to keep adding up.
