Coilovers or Wheels first?
I have stock wheels on my '92 LS400. I plan to get some 18" LS430 rims and Megan EZ Street coilovers; preferably at different times for budget reasons.
Should I do the wheels before the coilovers for eyeball purposes or is this combo unlikely to cause any issues? I do not want to drop very much since this is the wife's daily driver. Last year I had some aftermarket shocks/springs put on when I decided to live with the height. Not only did they not settle like they said the car looks like a monster truck now. I could almost get my head into the gap and it's driving me bananas.

I just want "nicer" wheels. I took off the SSR Viennas after she bent one in a pot hole, I guess. I figure/hope the OEMs will be heavier duty than those.

I'm almost positive that the OEM 430 wheels are tougher. SSR makes quality, durable stuff for sure. However SSR also has wheel weight (or lack of) as one of the top design priorities, inherently making them more prone to bending. Even though quality aftermarket wheel companies such as SSR use stronger materials and more expensive manufacturing processes, they absolutely use less overall material than the OEMs.
Another point: When you run the OE LS430 wheels, you will likely be running a larger tire sidewall than with the Vienna's on rubber band tires, protecting any wheel a hell of a lot more from the stress of public roads.
Personally I start with the coils before wheels. Just my opinion but I think a lowered car on stock wheels looks better than a car with nice wheels but monster truck'd.

what lots of people don't know is that aftermarket wheels like volk racing, SSR, work, are actually less durable than OE...by design. they have a different load rating and are meant to bend as they are meant for track use and to be discarded when compromised. OE standard are much higher which is why they are stronger and have better quality finishes among other details. they have to meet more stringent guidelines to cover a wider spectrum of use.

Personally I would expect them to be less durable. That's why I want to go back to an OEM rim. The wife is on a mission to find every pothole in the state so the SSRs will be sold. I have already had all four re-finished. I'm just too lazy to take pics and create an ad.

Which aftermarket shocks and springs did you go with? I'm looking to do mine soon and I like it a little high because I work construction and the jobsites always have dips and bumps. It'd be nice to see a pic of how high yours is if you can get one up. I saw the pic in your first thread 6 years ago. Is it that high? Heck, if you take them off and sell them maybe we can help each other out. I'll save a little and you'll have more for your wheels.

I am still stock but it seems I have to go BC Racing for the 92. Megan says theirs won't work. My first thread was stock wheels on stock height. Since then I have had some almost OEM shocks/springs put on which are way higher than that picture. I am at least 50% higher than that; maybe double and I'm not happy about it. I would take a pic but couldn't handle the shame. For the price I paid I could have had coilovers.
Now I want coilovers just to "undo" the height increase, then I will put on LS430 OEM wheels..
