Exhaust leak fix
Here's a quick and simple fix I did with the 99 LS400, with 125K miles: It was blowing for a year and sounded like a boy-racer / lawn mower, blowing on both sides of the Y-pipe.
New pipes are around $700 because they come with the cat.
Anyway, I put one side of the car up on stands and crawled under with pliers and hammers and cutters, and removed the shield / cover. Took 30 mins for both sides.
The leaks were below where the shield joins were, where I guess the air and water gets though, and fortunately that part is absolutely straight and so easy to fix.
I brushed off the rust, wrapped it with 4 layers of stainless steel tape (freaking useful stuff, BTW), and put on 5 SS hose clamps. Did this to both side and both were blowing.
Car drives like it's brand new.

Tip: use a socket on the hoseclamps, much faster than the screwdriver.
