Default RTH question about rotors

I have a 96 ls400. The previous owner probably flipped it after owning it for almst 2 years. When I did the brakes, I noticed that the passenger side rotor didnt have the 2 Phillips screws holding it in.

I don't know if he slapped a rotor on that wasn't correct.

My plan was to come to the salvage yard and get 2 lexus rotors and have them turned.

Im looking at a 94 right now but th e drivers side doesn't have the 2 screws

Default Found a 93

Both rotors have screw holes but no screws.

Anybody know if the part number is the same on all 1st generation ls400?

those screws are not detrimental to the function of your brakes as they are simply there to hold the rotor square to the hub for better balance. the studs are what keeps it from fully rotating around. you can simply get new ones at the dealer. they will become square when you tighen your lugs. without the screws you simply have a floating rotor, very common on other models.

The reason for the screws is to hold the rotor in position before the wheel is on, most cars don't even use them.
Your fine with out them. Unless its some sort of restoration competition where you lose points not having everything on the car factory perfect.

Yeah...it was pretty obvious that the screws weren't crucial to the brake system. That the holes still didn't match up when I bought a new rotor made me think that the previous owner may have swapped some parts with an older model. The part number for the rotor is different from 95 up and 94 down. Maybe my 96 has some older parts that function fine? Idk..the rotor fit and i just didn't use screws.

So I turned the front DS rotor and bought a new PS one...installed new pads and the squeak is gone but there is still a vibration/hard shake slowing to stop from highway speeds. It does seem that it is a lot better now but still there.

I am taking the rear rotors to be turned today and will put new pads on as well. I did just the pads last month. I was in a hurry and didn't have time to have the rotors turned. The pads have a lifetime warranty so I'll swap those to new, just to be safe. Hopefully the shake is gone.

Any ideas what else would cause a heavy vibration under braking if this doesnt fix it? Could it be suspension? I noted that my tie rod on the PS has a torn boot. I'll replace that soon but doubt that would cause issues with braking.

Anyway...I'll post up when I get it back together and find out.

Thanks for the help

Btw...was surprised to find drum brakes behind the rear rotor. Don't know if they need to be changed or not but they still have some pad on them.

Default E brake...not drum brakes

Turned all 4 rotors and all new brake pads...feels great again.

Should have done the rotors the first time

make sure to check the condition of your slide pins and lubricate with copper grease if they're bone dry.

My rear right caliper had a sticky slide pin that was almost impossible to remove, I literally had to pry it out of there. That was the cause of my rear pulsation under braking along with turned rear rotors the previous owner installed instead of purchasing new. Luckily found some brand new ones at the JY for 16 bucks that I swapped them with and it took care of it.
