Default Celsior Viscous Drive Fan

Hello,

I recently reverted back from electrical to the original viscous drive fan (to eliminate CEL code 56 and let the engine run on optimum temp). I would like to know how this fan should operate. Currently, sometimes it spins on high speed when the car is cold and slows down when the engine gets up to temp. Sometimes it just runs on slow speed. When II turn on the A/C, it spins at high speed.

The temp gauge sits at a point above middle and stays there, is this how it should operate?

Viscous?
Every JDM Celsior uses a hydraulic motor fan with a hydraulic pump driven by the serpentine belt. It spins always but changes the speed a lot depending on the water temperature controlled by the ECU with a sensor and a control valve.

The service manual doesn't specify the rotation speed and I have no idea to inform you the speed but I long as I observe different Celsiors, the temp gauge shows 10-15 degrees (angle) lower the centre mark.

Non-JDM celsiors have a clutch fan that uses a viscous fluid coupling to engage/disengage the fan.

Good article on how they work here, though this is for a hilux, the principle is the same.

This the one which is uses the hydraulic pump, the one Yamae is talking about. I have not yet replaced the eater temperature senor, i tested the resistance and it came out fine.

The temp gauge is sitting 1 degree (angle) above the half point. sometimes it goes up 2-3 degrees, the fan speeds up and it comes down to 1 degree below the half point.

Do you mean that there are non JDM Celsiors?
As far as I know Celsiors are only sold in Japan. There are many old Celsors exported after running many years in Japan. I was informed by car dealers that instead of going to junk yards, those were sent to foreign countries.
