Unhappy 96 Brake Problem

I have a 96 LS that has a problem with mushy front braks peddle as well as the peddle going down close to the floor. I can also hear a strangle sound when I apply the front brakes. It sounds like soda cans being crushed. I can hear a humming sound when I cut the car off. Is this a brake problem or a vacuum problem?

Have you changed the brake fluid lately? Old borken down, contamiated brake fluid will lead to mushy brakes. The noise you are hearing could be your pads are thin and cutting into the rotor. Is you break wear indicator light on? Changed the pads lately? If so, then I would guess it is your brake calipers sticking. Best thing to do is take it to the dealership and let them tell you what the problem is. But you can change the brake fluid easily. Just suck it out with a turkey baster (if the fluid is black then it is old) new fluid can be bought at the lexus dealership for $3 and is almost clear in color. It usually takes two bottles to replace. After you suck it out with the turkey baster replace it. Do this every 5 days or so until it is clear. Driving the car will rotate the fluid through the system. OR the hard way is to bleed the brakes but you run a risk of getting air in the line and that always sucks.

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes I have change the fluid several times and the problem is still there. I had the rotors turned and new pads on all four wheels. It sounds like the only thing left is to have the Dealer look at the front calibers, they may be sticking. Is it a way I can check for sticking calibers before I take it to the Dealer?

Check for sticking sliding pins on the rear brake. If one of the sliding pin is stuck by rust it will give the feel of low pedal. Your rear brake is 1 piston designed.
