Default Steering wheel lock up

Daughters 91 has a weird thing happening where upon start-up the wheel is practically locked. Turn car off and restart and it turns fine. Sometimes takes three or four re-starts to go. My gut tells me it's in the ignition itself. If so is this common or expensive? Will it lust altogether stay permanently locked? Sound familiar to anyone? Apologies if this has been covered. Thanks in advance

Wiggle the wheel while turning the key and see if that helps.

Which wheel fronts or back? If its a steering wheel then please add that to the conversation. It could be a power steering issue too.

Yes, car is running yet steering wheel is locked. A couple of restarts later all is normal. It does leak PS fluid in moderation. I will continue to research. Thanks

Make sure you keep the power steering fluid topped off until you get it fixed.

My '90 LS400 does something like that too. It turns as if there is no power steering in response to letting sharply off the gas. I was suspecting the acv on the power steering pump. It leaks but I'm not getting p/s fluid in the vacuum hoses. Could it be the solenoid on the rack? What does the solenoid do?
