Default LS 400 Check Engine

My 98 LS400 check engine light doesnt glow when turning the key. It needs to be fixed. Will i be able to get notification on the dash if some problem regarding check engine comes? i got computer testing done it didnt show any error.

I'm guessing the light is burnt out. And you need to replace it with a new one.

If it's a Mark 4, it doesn't have a Check Engine light. Does it have the digital text panel at the bottom of the instrument panel - the one that displays fuel economy, whether a door's been left open, and stuff like that? If so, that's where the Check Engine warning will show, but as text (together with a warning tone and a small flashing light). There is no little engine icon on the Mark 4 instrument display, unlike earlier LS400s (and most other cars).

This means that on the Mark 4, there is no Check Engine light or warning when you turn on the ignition. It will only show the Check Engine warning text if you actually have a problem during driving.

There is a check engine light separate from the info display in the gen2 ls 400.

The OP's LS400 is 1998, so most likely a Mark 4. These do not have a separate Check Engine icon. This is a source of much confusion!

I also have a 98 and I have a separate check engine light. I know the in display say's check engine but a light also illuminates in the cluster.

Interesting - yours is presumably a late Mark 3? The Mark 4s, which mainly date from 1998, do not have that separate icon.

Mines is a U.S. spec ls so maybe it's a regional deal. I don't know enough about the differences between the LS and MK series. Also mines has a build date of 12/97 if that makes any difference. I just assumed all the LS models had a MIL in the dash. I see the OP is not in the U.S. so you might be right in their case.
