I drive a 2000 LS400 and I am missing a small piece of my center air vent. (see green area in pic).
Apparently others have lost it too (I can't find it without taking apart the whole front of the car.
Question:
Will the same part from a 1995-1997+ fit?
If you look at the 1995-1997 it looks almost the same but no wood trim.
Ok I searched:
Center Console
Center Air
Center HVAC
Center air Vent
and many combinations therein.
Can someone help me please, I have replicated a rubber part to fit in its place but its red and ugly and I'm no fabricator.
Thanks!
BK, a search will not help you at this point, that is why no one has come forward.... yours is broke and you CANT buy the pieces, and the complete assembly is outrageous.. one person did glue his back together and made it work... your best bet is to find one in a salvage yard or someone parting 98-2000 out
My missing piece is still in one piece but I can't find it.
I guess I am looking for someone to part out their car, or if they have access to a 98-00 LS400 in a scrapyard to help out because when I call junkyards here about an LS400 they laugh at me and say the car is too reliable to be in a scrap yard :P
Hopefully you have solved your problem since the last post in Jan.
I recently had a similar situation and ended up making the piece from some plastic edge binding. I took the piece from the other vent to match for size and surprisingly it works! I had a feeling, at the time, I should be taking pics and documenting the process but I didn't.
Feel free to email me, bradland@gmail.com, if you need details or have questions about the process.
1. Remove the air vent assembly, making sure to remember the upper middle portion is connected with a metal thingamajig that needs to be pressed in on both sides to release (see other posts).
2. Disassemble the vent assembly CAREFULLY and isolate the little plastic thingamabob that we want to replicate (like the one in the picture on the original post above).
3. Take it to a 3d printer, and bargain!!!! They shouldn't charge more than $20 as it takes less than 30 minutes to scan and $0.10 of materials to print.
4. Ask them to print off several in both directions.
