Help !!!! - clicking when trying to start
My 98 ls400 has a starting problems that i cant figure out . It only happens every other day but when i turn the ignition it will just click. At first i thought it was my starter so i took it to autozone n they ran a test n said it was my battery that was bad so i changed it but its still doing it i have no idea what it might be any thoughts ?

Welcome to Club Lexus.
Most likely the starter if the battery is good. If it simply clicks when the ignition switch is turned, that is a key symptom of the problem. Many of us have had to replace or change the plunger and starter solenoid. With age they tend to go south. Not an easy task but can be DIY if mechanically inclined.

I would connect a voltmeter across the battery terminals, and observe it while starting the car. You may want the help of a friend or lovely assistant. If the cranking voltage drops too low, you will just get the solenoid click, but the engine will not turn over. This test is quick and cheap - you can get a DVM from Harbor Freight for $3 or $4.
