I have caught it....

I have not truly spent money on my car since I have owned it until recently.... and now I cant stop.... someone take my bank cards away!! LOL

I am now looking for a clutch pedal assembly. Could I use a cable clutch, or does it have to be hydraulic? Are their cable clutch options??

yeah these cars are getting cheaper and cheaper but they still last, so more and more folks jump on. glad to see the network growing!

there is no cable operated clutch transmission that will work with the 1UZ motor that i can think of so, no a cable clutch is not available.

Don't believe toyota's used a cable clutch in the past 30 years+

All the transmissions you're going to be looking at use hydraulic slaves.

Tragic. I found a kit that uses an M5 6 speed manual, but its $1700!! --insert eye popping emoticon-- lol

but yeah its starting to hurt my wallet.. buying a welder soon to start making UCF10 headers and turbo manifolds... and possible skid plates to replace that plastic one up front.

why would you want that? the gearing is all off for the lower revving UZ motors.

the CDxxx series of Nissan transmissions out of the Z33/Z34 is a better choice, and they're cheap. Adapters are already commercially available.

well I wanted it because the clutch is a regular clutch, no crazy spaced out throw out bearings or anything like that. I want to be able to walk into a parts place and be like, I need a clutch for ____________. Not walk in and be like get me the pressure plate from X, the disk from Y, the T/O bearing from Z and the alignment tool from A with the bearings from H... its too confusing

That's a silly reason imho, as you're going to have to do that anyways. You're still going to need a pressure plate to fit the XUZ flywheel (which is usually SR20/3S-GTE patterned), a clutch disk to match your gearbox, and a throwout for whatever spacing.

You need to do more research. There are a myriad of tried and true manual transmission solutions that would more readily suit your needs. For reference, ALL LSx engined GM cars with manual transmissions have hydraulic throwouts witout issue. the W5x kits use OTS wearable parts. LSx TOBs, W5x Clutch Disks, 3S-GTE pressure plates, all commonly available.

Well thats why I liked that BMW kit. the billet flywheel was made special to just bolt any out of the box clutch onto. its designed for the 420G getrag from the M5 or the 540i 6 speed MT.

I want something more user friendly than buying 6 clutch kits to make one clutch

Link to the kit?

All the parts I mentioned can be purchased individually from any parts store or amazon/rockauto.

Its from a company in the UK called Drift Moto.

A copy of the question I was asking the guy sales@f1moto.co.uk

Nev Payne: Uses the 240mm E34 m5 clutch. We decided to go with that option because you can buy multiplate high HP clutches that will bolt straight on, I can make the flywheels for tilton, ap, or any of the normal 'race' style clutches that are easily available too

Nev Payne: This is a direct no fuss bolt on kit everything is done for you including the spigot bearing

Chris Gawelko: So what all comes in the kit? (( and for those of us who arent BMW savvy, its the Getrag 420G transmission which is a 6 speed manual ))

Nev Payne: kit comes with adaptor plate and bolts, and billet flywheel and spigot bearing, you will need gearbox, engine and clutch

Nev Payne: it uses all the original clutch fork etc from the bmw box

annnnnd a pic:

Ahh the old 420G, i think it came in E46 M3s as well right? (different bellhousings though).

I wouldn't pick up that trans for a competition car at all, or a high powered street car. there are literally zero replacement internals available afaik. No synchros, no gears, no shafts, nothing. If you gack up a synchro you get to either hunt or a used piece or buy a fresh trans.

yeah it was in these cars:

1996-1999 BMW E36 M3 (Euro)
2001-2006 BMW E46 M3
1988-1995 BMW E34 540i and M5
1996-2004 BMW E39 540i and M5
1995–2001 BMW E38 7 Series
1989–1999 BMW E31 8 series
2000–2003 BMW E52 Z8

But he said I could use the 5 speed from the E36 M3 which is a favorite of mine.
