Default Failed smog! Air injection failed

My results.
HC (PPM)
@15mph MAX: 56__MY MEAS: 88
@25mph MAX: 32__MY MEAS: 67

CO (%)
@15mph MAX: 0.46__MY MEAS: 1.42
@25mph MAX: 0.43__MY MEAS: 1.53

Any ideas what could be wrong
1993 Lexus ls400

Do you know why the smog tech failed the air injection system when he did the visual? Correct this and you should pass.

Also, look at the O2 numbers. If the air injection system is functioning properly, you should see excess O2 and not zero.

He told me the car is burning too much gas. He didnt tell me more since he said he doesnt do repairs. I didnt drive it around before I took it to smog could that have had that effect

I'm not sure how he would fail you for the Air Injection visual. The air pump is located where the starter is and there is nothing you can really even see. I would demand a retest and explanation of the failed visual.

What kind of MPG are you getting in this condition? Two areas that don't promote efficient running are the ECT sensor and a vacuum line that is disconnected-cracked. Haven't seen any relating testing during smog for these so unknown how they would change the tail pipe emissions. When the ECT sensor went bad and I discovered a cracked vacuum line that went to the intake plenum, MPG dropped significantly. Get it fixed ASAP, all that extra fuel being dumped downstream if unburned is not going to be good for the cats.

Also check the swirl control valve motor and assembly. Clean accordingly
