Default 91 LS400 ECU. Is it better to rebuild or replace?

Hi all,
I have only recently stared posting on here although I have been a member for quite sometime. This a testament to how little I need to touch my LS400. But here are my questions.
If I ever need to deal with a malfunctioning ECU for whatever reason, would it be better to send it off to be "rebuilt" ( new caps I suppose), or should I replace it with a used ECU?
I am looking for longevity being that it looks like my LS400 wants to go another 200,000 miles before calling it quits.
Without getting into reasons for repairing or replacing the ECU, it's just a "which is the better choice" type question. Is there any reprogramming involved if the ECU is switched out with one from a different car but with the same exact type and model number of ECU?
My car is a 1991 LS400, Gold Edition, California Spec car with Trac, auto trans, Nakamichi Premium Sound.
Thanks in advance!

Having the caps replaced is the better option. Most replacements unless specified that the caps have been replaced are likely going to be future candidates for the repair. EOL on the caps is 10-14 years and the 91 is well beyond. Catch it before it begins leaking on the PCB.

I vote for rebuild. It seems to be a very cheap repair as long as you know how to solder.

This might gives you a big encouragement to replace capacitors.

I always wonder why boy's can't. The ECU is a bit difficult to deal with though selecting good capacitors and removing old bad capacitors.

I am not looking to advertise for anyone, but does anyone have any experiences with sending the ECU to a rebuilder? If so how was it? Would you recommend anyone in particular? I ask because, although I have soldered a few boards in the past, I would rather have a pro do it. I see Ebay is full of ECU rebuilding services. I would shop by quality, not price on this one. This is not a garage science project.
