hello everyone, i just picked up a ls400 last week, i was told the car needed a tps ,i tried installing the tps but the prongs and sensor wont line up at all tried everything any suggestions?
the TPS on LS400 is one of those poor misunderstood components that everyone seems to blame right off the bat, then later on they find the true problem, and it is usually not the TPS
all they manage to do is to replace their very high quality Aisin or Nippon Denso TPS with some chinese crap for no reason!
if you truly think that your TPS is having an issue, for example if you have a specific OBD diagnostic code pointing to it, then there are several tests and adjustments you can do contained in the factory service manual - ebay is probably you best bet on where to get a good deal on the Factory Repair Manual set. - Helm inc. or Faxon auto literature are also good sources, with Helm being cheapest, if they have it.
I've never seen one bad, but one thing I have seen many times, is people promising a quick fix for a sensor or fuel pump when selling a car with engine problems! best of luck sorting it out!
Agree that its likely not bad, but as to how to install it, if you "tried everything" already, I doubt we can help, lol. What I would say to someone who has tried nothing would be to use your finger to find the direction of movement on the TPS, then use that info to install it with it slightly tensioned, that's how I always do them, works every time.
