Does anyone know a good online retailer that sells good brake dust shields for my '95 LS 400? I prefer the shields that completely cover the wheel well. Brake dust sucks and I'm tired of cleaning the wheels every week or so.

 

What kind of pads do you have? I'm using ceramic and rarely need to clean my wheels. Amorall also sells a spray for wheels that prevents brake dust from sticking to wheels.

 

Change your pads to something else. Dust shields look really silly and can cause issues of their own.

Order up a set of Akebono PROact Ceramic pads from your local parts store or an online vendor like rock auto... That's what I use and the pads barely produce dust at all!

 

brake pads produce dust, that is just a fact like a combustion engine produces exhaust gases. the ones that claim to be dustless don't work too well. in my opinion they are just pads that are colored silver so the dust matches the wheel color.

i suggest you apply some wax on the wheels themselves which will slow down the dust accumulation, and protects the wheels at the same time!

Even if something like what you want existed, it wouldn't really help since the dust could come out from the other side of the wheel/wheel-well.

Just get ceramic pads. They dust less.

 

That is not always true.
Sure, lots of dustless pads are definitely junk, I have had to send more than my fair sharet back for warranty because they just don't stop well, but there are some that work exceptionally well.

The Akebono ProACT's I mentioned are a good example of such pads, and we used these almost exclusively on our customers high dollar cars(BMW, Merc, Audi, Porsche, Jag, Aston, Bentley, etc) with super flashy/expensive wheels without a complaint. Hawk Ceramics(not offered for our cars) are also a great low-dust pad. Both offer a more tan colour dust, not black like normal pads and still stop exceptionally well! However, I have found the dust from these pads can become slightly caustic with long term reaction with road salts, if not cleaned off routinely over the winter... then again, if you are driving your nice fancy wheels around in the winter, with road salts down, and your nice polished lips get pitted and stained because you were a tool and never cleaned them.... well don't be an idiot!

Waxing the wheels will further eliminate/reduce the dust accumulation.

 

Something is wrong here. OEM LS400 brake pads don't produce perceptible dust deposits. I wonder if you have some very soft aftermarket brake pads.

Each set of OEM front pads lasted over 70,000 miles on my 00 LS400. I had the original rear pads replaced at 120K for convenience but they probably could have gone to 140K.

 

I roll OEM, never any dust issues.
