Old thread but you are absolutely correct. Just google actual tests, all the research shows no difference, and with today’s gas additives you generally should not need additives. I have run my 98 LS400 on regulars since I purchased it at 132k I can get 29MPG HWY I now have 308k and the care still runs smooth. Regular changes of air filter and cleaning of the MAF, throttle body, and idle air mix path. I do add some seafoam once a year to the tank just to be sure injectors stay clean. No idea if the seafoam helps but I have seen it help on my yard equipment so what the heck. It doesn’t seem to hurt.
My son has had this care for the last 4 years and it has developed a faster Idle than I remember so currently trying to research that issue. Other than that it now has a small oil leak I cant seem to find but its someplace in the front of the engine. He had the timing belt done about 30 k ago and I know this was not and issues before then so it may be related.
