buying a high mileage car
I have been looking at a 1993 Ls400, it has done 338,000kms/210,000 miles. the owner has had it regularly serviced and its in reasonable condition. He is selling it here in Tasmania Australia for $3900aud, would it be an ok investment or should I look elsewhere. I have seen ones a couple of years older on the Mainland Australia with about 220,000kms but they are around the 1991 age. Its just with the higher kms/miles that I am concerned as I don't want it to break down soon after purchase

My 96 LS 400 has 283,000 miles and is still a great car. You will have maintenance and you will be fixing it from time to time but overall I love this car. Still runs great and I enjoy it.

these cars are very reliable, but that price is too much for a 93. unless all the service has been done (timing belt is the major one), and the car is in reasonable shape (paint, interior), and you are absolutely in love with the car, i would pass and look for something better.

over here all Lexus and Celsiors are quite highly priced, you would be lucky to find any 91-92 models in decent condition for under $5000aud. I have been in touch with a few sellers, found a 94 model with 140k that I might go up to Mainland Australia for a look at on the weekend.

way too much for 90-94 ls400. my cousin sold his '93 for $1000 USD, and it only had 125k miles on the clock, clean title too. (not saying the buyer didn't get a good deal cause he definitely got a steal) but a 90-94 ls400 in America is only worth about $2k or less with those kinda miles.

Just for reference, could you link both the highest and lowest priced LS400s located near you, as well as the one you are currently interested in? Since a majority of forum users here are scattered around the United States, prices tend to differ a lot and you're an entire ocean away so that makes how "nice" a price is, even harder to agree on.

this is probably the best site to find Ls400's across Australia. I got more info from the guy who is selling the 93 with the 338,000kms, has a lot of electrics that aren't working (seats, windows, telescopic steering wheel). hopefully my current car will be sold on the weekend and then I can start looking.....
