Default 99 LS 400: p1351, p1354, & VSC

LS with 295,000, timing belt replaced at 265k, recent battery change, nothing else. Occasionally in hot weather at idle would not idle steadily, sometimes VSC Off message would appear and I would reset it a couple of times each summer and would not re-appear until following summer. Now engine light comes on and p1351 and p1354 codes. At stop light engine ran rough once today, other times okay. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I believe those codes refer to the timing belt is not aligned properly. Did this start after the timing belt was put on? Could possibly be bad caps on the ECM too but I think it would be more consistent if that were the case. What year is your LS?

generally these two codes are caused by one of the following:

● jumped time by one tooth or timing belt incorrectly installed
● oil control valve
● VVT controller
● ECU failing capacitors
● foreign material in oil (rare)

These codes are actually a report of inconsistent VVT signals as they relate to the cam position signals or ECU not seeing any variability in the valve timing at all.

my first 99 had one of those codes, and I pulled the oil control valve out of the driver side head and cleaned it, making sure it had plenty of "snap" to it, and also cleaned the port it goes in, put it back and no more light. mine never ran/idled bad, just the light.. it was wrote up, do a search on the trouble codes and you can see it(photos)

Okay, this info and talking with the Lexus dealer, it seems as if the likely culprit IS the oil control valve. Taking off the plastic engine cover though, I am not sure which part this may be. If someone could upload a picture that would be awesome.

I'm looking for the one on the right/passenger side.

Okay, I was looking further in, instead of on the cover. I was afraid it was more burried, like underneath the throttle body. Passenger side looks like I just need to remove the air intake parts.

Once to the part, unclip the electrical connection, and there is a screw holding it in/on?
