actually, yes it is, especially in the area of reliability, quietness, and fit and finish - always has been, even a $200,000 Mercedes cannot compete with the LS series in these areas

Yes it is a great car! I would have loved to be a fly on the wall when the LS was being designed. That would be something to remember

Of everyone who could of said this!

But to get back on track, Have you tried checking the throttle cable and pedal yet to see if its binding up at all? On several occasions i have seen these kind of issues in cars where it simply is something wrong with the throttle linkage, where stomping on the gas will still work okay, but the gradual increase as in normal driving causes things to bind up and not open the throttle all the way.

this is one of those problems that is going to take a little bit of hit and miss, could be the TPS, could be the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (ECTS), could be the MAF, could be ECU caps, or several other possibilities, fortunately, before long you will likely be getting codes in the ECU, if you don't already have some - have you done a normal tune-up (plugs, wires, caps, rotors) ? - I would start there, as well as dump the codes and the next thing I would do is to clean throttle bottle or at least the butterfly, after that I would change the ECTS to a new one from from the dealership. Then test TPS per the service manual, then if the issue is still there, look at ECU caps, especially if you have no codes.

a MAF is pretty expensive, did you make sure it is plugged in?

have you cleaned the MAF sensor tip gently with low pressure compressed air and a clean chamois only (no spray cleaners, no solvents)

Just because a code comes up pointing to a particular component, doesn't mean that component is necessarily bad, it just means the ECU is having an issue with the data it is receiving from that particular sensor or circuit

and tell us the code number you got, and double check the code by downloading it again, was that the only code?

once you have double checked the code, then clear the codes, check again to make sure there are none now stored after clearing, and then drive the car, and then see what code comes back

yes, code 31 is the MAF - did you go through the troubleshooting steps for the MAF circuit in the factory service manual?

if you don't have the factory service manual, you can get a membership to Toyota Technical Information System for $15 and have 2-3 days to look at the appropriate section
