Default Temp gauge acting weird

So I've searched the forum and found nobody having the same issue as I am having with my temp gauge...I've recently replaced the gauge switch and still does the same thing...What's happening is when I start the car it seems to get to operating temp rather fast..(1-2min) and it seems to run a lil hot (about 3/4 of the way up on the gauge).. Here's the punchline while I'm driving, If i turn the car to the right, the temp goes down to normal, If i turn to the left, the temp goes up almost to hot... I've had somebody watch the gauge as i played with the wire/connector and it doesn't cause the gauge to move so what else could it be?? I've replaced the thermostat, temp sensor and gauge switch...the car has always ran at the 2nd mark on the gauge...I happen to notice it higher than normal last week...and it ins't overheating..Any input would be great! Thanks!

I say its the gauge. Mine did odd stuff like yours and i changed out the sensors. Got a new gauge and all is good. Price for one will vary depending on what year you have check online with Sewell Lexus.

Gauge meaning cluster?

I've come to the conclusion that the gauge itself is bad..I'm guessing from me whacking the dash sometimes to get the tach to work lol..

I mean the temp gauge itself not the whole cluster.

I would be concerned that you may have an air pocket riding near the temp sensor, that needs to be burped out. The block probably overheats in that area because there is no water carrying the heat away, until you turn the corner and it sloshes over the sensor, cooling it temporarily.

having to hit the dash to get the tach/speedo to work is often an early sign of failing ECU capacitors

I've replaced the thermostat, temp sensor and gauge switch
the 2 wire temp sensor (called the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor) has nothing to do with the reading on the gauge, it is strictly there to feed information to the ECU - only the single wire temp sensor beside it gives information back to the cluster gauge

well originally I had replaced the coolant sensor thinking it was bad...then the gauge sensor thinking it was bad lol but the gauge itself I broke..the shaft that connects the needle to the motor was broken. I've read the thread on the leaking capacitors..I have a few of the symtoms..there's a place close to me that rebuilds them so I'm gonna replace them anyways soon..

be very careful on this, I have opened up over a hundred "rebuilt" LS400 ECU's and have never found a single one that used the correct Japanese low-ESR capacitors - so "hacked up by idiots with no clue" is a better phrase to use

As I've read..lol I plan to buy the right ones myself specified in the ECU thread. I've taken the ECU apart and there was no "visible" sign of bad or leaking capacitors but i know looks can be deceiving.

No, it isn't. Even vendor TaninAuto confirms that the dash hit is due to a needle issue in the cluster. That's why you have to smack the dash and not the ECU.

well that is very interesting, as someone who smacked the dash for years, and I haven't had any more speedo sticking issues since ECU was rebuilt
