Default car stalling

96 lexus ls 400 starts up .. drive it 1/4mile then dies.. all lights on.. then starts back up . its stays on while sitting and idling .. then I drive it.. takes a minute to gain speed even though I am pressing on gas.. it then speeds up after couple mins .. then dies out again after driving it another 1/4 mile. I believe I might know possibly what the issues are but I do need some other opninions.. HELP!!???

first eliminate normal stuff such as a dying fuel pump or fuel pump ECU or fuel pump relay. this kind of problem can also be electrical, and is often caused by bad ECU capacitors

This ECU issue happens on all LS400's and is especially common on 93-97 models

PS - you don't get ALL of the symptoms I listed on my thread until it gets really bad, so see if ANY of them sound familiar.

Default '97 Stall Solved

I had this problem in Dec 2012. '97 LS 400 100,000 miles. Last time it stalled in traffic, I had it towed to the dealer. Seems it was the fuel pump. But, I also needed valve cover gaskets, spark plugs, hoses, etc. Then they saw the ignition cap rotor, crankshaft/camshaft issue. I realized a bit later while work was being done that I was due for 100,000 mile service anyway. I neglected to keep up with service as I should. I decided to have the timing belt kit included with everything else. Four main jobs in all. Total - $3,000.000. Could have been $4,000.00 other places. I should have never let myself get to the point where the car stalls while out and about. A real safety hazard. I was pinching pennies and letting the car ride on its good reputation. I learned my lesson - I hope.
