Transmission mount replaced! Motor mounts next
Changed out the transmission mount on my 98 with ~164k on the clock. Old one seemed to be in pretty average shape from the pix I've seen and information from others who have done this.

Very easy to do. Jacked the car up, put jacks on the cross member then supported the transmission using a bottle jack and a piece of wood. You could use a small jack or bottle jack to support the transmission but not a heavy duty jack as there would not be any room to work. Key thing is ro release tension on the mount.
I did notice a vibration when I first drove it after getting done but that went away once shifted to neutral and then the vibration in general went away once the car was warmed up so perhaps the motor mounts are bad and need to be done next.
I haven't had as much time to "feel" the car but I am about to leave so I will check it out then to see if any other annoyances went away with the trans mount replacement.
Need an alignment so I think I will repalce the motor mounts first (write-up shows messing with the control arms) then have that done. Valve covers and p/s steering pump are also in my queue! Still impressed at how long things in this car last. I do have an oil leak but it took triple digit mileage to happen. On my old car (BMW) this would reoccur at 40-60k!

New motor mounts will make it silky smooth! And yes, to do it, you will need to slightly drop the engine crossmember which has the lower control arms bolted to it. I didn;t have to touch the control arms at all, or the bolts holding them in. it had enough slack to be moved down slightly and make room for the new mounts.
