Default Question about removing carpet.

Hey ppl quick question. I'm r removing my carpet so i can give it a real good cleaning and clean up the water that has collected under the passenger side due to the drain holes being close in my sunroof. My question is how do i get the carpet from under the gas pedal? I have the manual but it just says to slide it underneath the pedal but i think I'm missing a step since it doesn't move. I have searched the site and the only thing I have found is a poster on another forum saying that you have to pull on the gas pedal and pop it out which I'm kinds of skeptical about.

over the years dirt mud and other crap sorta glues the carpet down in places like that. i would try to hit it with some heat from a blow dryer and try moving it again.

Ok Ill give that a try tomorrow. In the manual it says to lift the gas pedal up and I don't see how that is possible. It seems like the pedal is attached to something thru a hole in the carpet.

The gas pedal is attached to a single clip on the floor (I believe it's a ball joint type) I think what I did was just stick a flat screwdriver underneath and popped it up. Mine is a 93 and usual disclaimer, I am not respoonsible for what you do to your car and the results of your actions.

Chiming in to back up what DonCorleone is saying. I have a 94. The bottom of the pedal has two hollow cylinder openings, which each pops over a ball shaped piece. They should be at the bottom of the bottom side of the pedal. Pry them out, then lift and slide the pedal.

Yeah i believe the are two of these ball joint type connectors. Did you have to apply a lot of pressure tho pop them out?

Sorry for the double post but you were posting as i was responding to Don. How much pressure did you apply and do they just snap back in when reassembling? Just want to make sure i don't break anything. Will spraying some penetrating oil help the cause?

Hi sha4000, I have a 95 Celsior and had the same issue. The manual tells you to just lift the gas pedal or something to that effect. Bull****. After careful inspection I found two screws under the carpet that fix the gas pedal to the car body. Where the gas pedal goes through the carpet are two slits cut to allow access to the screws but I had to use a bit of force to make the slits open wide enough to allow a socket wrench through.

I hope this makes sense as we tend to use different terms on this side of the blue ball.

Good luck.

You can kind of make out the screws in the right side of the photo. I put the screws back in their holes once I removed the carpet so I don't lose them. Yes, we are left had drive.
Apologies for the horrible photo.

Now we are really getting some where. Thanks Tuha I see something that resembles nuts but I couldn't figure out how to get them off. They must have changed something about the gas pedal over the years even though i don't see why. I guess some years just have the ball joint like clip (First gen) maybe and the second gen actually has a screw with the nut on it. Ill check when i get home. Thx for all the responses and help and those pics are exactly what i was looking for Tuha.

Ok, so I got the gas peddle off and there are indeed two ball like joints that you have to pop out to remove the gas peddle so you can pull the carpet forward. let me state that this is for the 98 Lexus LS 400 in case someone searches for those keywords in the future and I'm attaching pics to better help out so ppl can have an ideal of what it looks like. I couldn't find any definitive pics on the net and i did a pretty good search with different keywords.

Since you are there you might want to go ahead and pop two new 02 sensors in. From RockAuto their not but about $50 each. I remember this when I replaced both of mine... Not a fun job.

You read my mind bcuz I was already on rockauto right after I posted. I had to do the passenger side a couple of years ago so I figure I'll get the drivers side done while everything is out the car. Im going to clean up all the seats as well. Also considering putting some sound proofing material in there to get rid of some of the road noise. Doing my homework on that now to see what's the least expensive material I can find.
