Was the tape player ejecting tape cassettes OK? I'm wondering if the cord isn't hung up in transport mechanism. The adapters that I have you can move the cord so that it exits close to the tape player door.

You might have to take the tape player out of the dash so you can see what's hanging up. Don't start prying and forcing stuff.
