99' LS400 bad starter ... Help Plz..
Ok I woke up to go to work and my ls400 won't start not even a click noise , after few attempts it started , right away I knew its the starter after I checked my battery ... so I went to my local mechanic and he said its a big job and that I need to replace more than the starter .. is that true and why ? Plz some pro help highly appreciated ...

yes, the starter/solenoid is a real pain to fix, but probably 50% of the time here on Club Lexus, when someone first reports that their car will not turn over or do anything, it turns out to be something else (a bad connection at the battery, a bad battery, a fuse, relay, fuselink, bad ground, etc.)
so I would do a lot of checking for other problems before I did that starter hob, it is a real chore, and expensive if you have it done (labor intensive)

They will say replace the gaskets on the intake plenum and throttle body. If the car has mega miles, I would have these gaskets because you don't know how well they will seal once it is apart. Other than that, there aren't any additional parts I'm aware of.
2x$15 intake plenum
1-$6 throttle body
Starter prices vary, this last one was $600 and the dealer many years back charged $700. Considering the dealer, this was a good price.

Yes, this is a big job for a starter and I agree with the others who suggest you check everything else first. I remember asking the service manager several years ago about the placement of the starter and he said something to the effect that they never have to be replaced. The very next time I was having my car serviced I noticed they were replacing a starter and it looked to be a major job - hood removed and everything - couldn't even imagine what it might cost.

knock sensors and the connectors..they are in the intake valley area
No way I am doing that starter job and not replacing the knock sensors and connectors at the same time, imagine having to do that royal pain of a job twice in the same year
