No

1995 uses Toyota p/n

89661-50220 or
89661-50221 or
89661-50223

NOTE: original California cars for 1995 use different numbers than these, so be careful that you know where your car was delivered when new.

your 1996 needs Toyota p/n:

89661-50302 or
89661-50303 or
89661-50304

and higher number are preferred, due to newer programming which eliminated stalling after high speed operation issue

my 96 uses 89661-50303 with new capacitors and is working very well.

actually, they are interchangeable (ie will plug in and work) but aren't worth it as the '95 had a large recall due to an issue with stalling after prolonged highway driving.

Damn, I need a new ECU.... Mine was never replaced. Ugh.... I wonder if the recall is still in place?

I don't think the recall gets your ECU replaced, but it should definitely get it reflashed with the latest programming, which was really the only change.

Ok, I will call and get some info. Do you think I should replace all of the caps and then get it re-flashed?

it doesn't matter which order you do it, they won't be opening the ECU to reflash it, so they won't know if it has ever been worked on.

Thanks for clarifying, I had someone ask me the same question and I didn't know what to tell them, since I had some parts for sale.

If my car has ecu 89661-50302 can I use a different ecu for that year like the 89661-50303 ecu?

Others can correct as needed, but my understanding at least in Lexus and Toyota land is that if the final digit of a part number is the only difference, it’s not a “different” part. It’s the same part, just a supercession. So those two part numbers are in substance same fitment. One might just have certain updates to it.
