New Owner 96LS400, Transmission Drain Plug
Hi, new to site new 96 LS400 with 58K. Would like to drain and fill transmission and differential, not been under her yet, is drain plug easy to find and differential drain plug easy to find? Do they share fluid? Also, looking to put Valvoline Maxlife for refill, thoughts? Thanks for the help!

Keep in mind that Lexus says you need to replace both the drain plug gasket and bolt whenever you change the fluid, I thought this sounded ridiculous, so I skipped buying a new bolt from the dealer, even though it was cheap.
Well I learned the hard way, that the bolts are like disposable one-use type, because I got a leak almost immediately and got to repeat the job, this time using both a new bolt & gasket and then it didn't leak!
PS - the transmission doesn't share fluid with anything, and another important point: only use Toyota T-IV fluid, or your super reliable and super expensive Aisin transmission will stop being super-reliable!, it is cheap at the dealership about $5-6/qt and you only need about 3 of them.

Welcome to Club Lexus.
The others have you covered. I've managed to use the same bolt on the tranny thus far and the crush washer is important to have fresh.
The FAQ has many of our discussions easily linked for reference:
