Default 7.5k for a 2000 LS400 - good buy or not

So someone smashed up my '92 LS400 and now that everything is settled up with insurance I am looking to get another one.

Most of what I found lately (craigslist, etc) is overpriced junk or out of my price range. I did find a 2000 LS 400 Platinum Series owned by a local attorney here, but he will not go at all below $7,500.

The car has 210k miles, non navi and appears to be clean with a few tiny dings on the exterior and pretty clean interior. Is this a good price for this model or can I do much better if I keep driving the '92 for several more weeks and keep looking? I am in Los Angeles.

To be honest I am just kind of getting sick of looking around for that "perfect" bargain.

Thanks,
-Rasta

PS - if anyone wants a '92 that still runs fine but has some body damage to passenger side for $1500 let me know.

That's a bit high esp with mileage. Did he do all the maintenance stuff?

No this one is black on black. He originally listed it for $8700. According to him, all maintenance has been done at Jim Faulk Lexus (right by my office) and I they have the full records. Suppose I will get the VIN tonight when I look at it and maybe walk over there to confirm.

After seeing values on Edmunds, I kind of feel like this one might not be such a good value with this many miles....but in general it feels like used car values are inflated here right now.

I learned with the ls400 you have to buy it cheap coz the waterpump and timing belt work aint cheap.
So when I bought mine I lowballed the hell out of the seller. lol he's rich anyways so he didnt care that much.

Well this guy is a rich Beverly Hills lawyer but he is just not budging on $7500 (and after several lowballs I offered $7,250). Guess I am going to check the service records and if he didn't do timing belt at 180k will just not buy it and keep looking.... like I said sick of spending good weekend relaxing time browsing CL and others for an LS.

I've seen some higher mileage LS in good looking condition for less on auto trader but they always seem to be over an hour away in the middle of the desert or half way to SD. I've been reluctant to check them out because since I spend enough time during the week in traffic.

ask him to pull the maint. records, if it has been maintained there, and the timing belt was done in the last 30-40k miles, i would say the price isn't bad if it's a clean car w/o a major accident history.

Perfect maint. cars don't come often.

i understand your frustration as my search for that perfect LS lead me to bakersfield after a few weeks of searching (and she wasn't in the exact shape i wanted but close enough)!

for this car in my opinion, that is way too much miles for my tastes. i know finding a black/black is indeed a rarity and that's good you are aware of the maintenance required at that age. i say keep looking, or even ask an owner if you see one on the road, even if there is no for sale sign present. some people are willing to sell if presented with cash!

Received the maint, records for the car, so I guess I am not even going to go look at it tonight. Besides a strange 2 year gap with no records, and a few random issues they brought it to the dealer for, everything else seemed OK. But no timing belt / water pump change since 130k - so it would be due now...

Oh well back to looking, since I didn't feel like this was a good deal probably for the best anyhow.

Keep looking. These come in waves so as long as you have current transportation, just keep your eyes open. How about a GS?
