What did you do to your LS400 today?

^^^ I replaced my original trans mount today too! '99 @ 167k miles and it looked the exact same.It fixed a variety of rattles that I had all different speeds. Then I washed it

My 98 started to sound a bit too much like a souped up truck, or something, so I took it to a muffler shop to see what was going on. Sure enough, the flange between the cat and the rest of system had a leak. It wasn't just the gasket but it looked like part of the flange might have rusted away for some reason.
What ever the reason, the guy said he could either try to weld new flanges or just weld the leak shut. I chose the latter option, and 35 bucks later the car is again as quiet as LS400 is supposed to be. At least in completely stock form like mine, that is.
I must admit, though, I kind of liked the sound. It wasn't too obnoxious, yet provided nice little rumble when you stepped on the gas.

On Tuesday I replaced the coolant temperature sensor. Really helped the performance. The sensor had to be original as it was crusty and black. Today I pulled into work and the car imediately died. I looked at the coil pack and saw that I'd barely put it back on when I put everything back from the sensor swap. Well, I guess I should come clean, the scan tool showed P1305 which sent me to the coil. Hope admitting this oversight helps others when they do the CTS change out!

Headlight restoration.
I tried to use SYLVANIA Headlight Restoration Kit today. It began to rain when I was finishing the job. I wonder how long it lasts.
The kit was not available in Japan and I needed to ask my American family to purchase it.

Changed out the differential fluid today on my 98. The old fluid was amber in color. It looked to be in good shape and there was no metal on the drain plug. I checked the records and the last differential service was around 35,000 miles. It has 125,000 now.

Not so much just today, but the last four days . . . a complete detailing of my new 1991 Lexus LS 400 at 60,500 miles.
(silicone spray on door seals, full waxing of door jamb paint)
(Leatherique leather conditioner on seats and door panels and steering wheel)
(Scotch Guarded all carpeted surfaces)
(total engine compartment detail including mild disassembly for more thorough cleaning)
(trunk carpeting removal and Scotch Guard treatment)
(all plastic retainer buttons intact and accounted for)
(engine doesn't leak a drop)
I will do a write-up of my subwoofer rebuild as soon as the new foam suspension ring arrives. Why replace a nice 2-ohm matched speaker when you can glue on a new suspension in less than 30 minutes? If the cone had shown any wear, I would have gotten a new cone at the same time.

Today Task
Today was the day I finally used a windshield sun shade. I'm here in Southern Cal and there is not much break-time from the sunshine. This is on a '97 LS 400.

did something with air filter, it sits nice and snug
doesn't really quite sound like
the jbrady intake mod either.. more high pitched..
next it trying to fab a heat shield that the top air
diffuser can sit on as well.. that'll be the fun part.
this I guess is mostly aesthetic because well, we all know that CAI's don't do much for the N/A UZFE VVTI platform..
I didn't want it looking too ricer
more like how our Aussie brethren tune them down under in the outback dare even say Mad Max-ish..

Replaced my coolant temp sensor on my 98 and replaced my plugs also with some Denson SKR2011's. Not a hard job really, just take off all the covers and air cleaner and easy from there.
Biggest problem was dropping some tools down the front of the radiator and then forgetting to put the clamp back on the big radiator hose next to battery on right side of radiator when I was finished. Got that handled. Runs smooth and powerful. Hopefully my mileage of 22combined with 70/30 highway/city driving improves.
The sensor was orginal at 163K miles but someone had replaced the plugs before. Some of the plugs were barely in there at all, no effort to put on socket wrench to turn them out of there. I did torque them at 13lbs and I know they are in there better than when they came out.

Strut Tower Bar
I linked up with a socal local Lexus LS enthusiast & previous owner of a 1998 LS 400, now owns a 2015 Lexus GS (don't quote me).
And I ended up walking away his old strut tower bar for a decent price! Thanks again Thomas!
It is Cusco I believe but the struts are painted matte black, which is cool because I'm not a fan of the blue/violet color they originally are..
Next, hopefully some braided brake lines or the center muffler/resonator delete.. We'll see..
