It will idle fine .Start fine .when you pull off it has no torque. It will stay at speed until you hit an incline .It all started after a buddy was as he said "was on fumes". I said fuel injected cars can't run on fumes as carbs have done. There must be constant pressure. If not it will die.So! He said he filled up on some Luk Oil and after starting the car it barely pulled out of the gas station.I suggested to change the gas filter but this hasn't helped.A shop says maybe sediment made it to the injectors.I tried some cleaners but so far still the same. One troubling thing.I found that the LS400 has no shreider valve to test fuel pressure. Any thoughts????

Maybe you ran it so low that you got some garbage in the fuel lines.

How do you guys check your fuel pressure on your cars?Heard there was a way using the regulator ???? I've seen adapters for the banjo fitting but that's terrible that Toyota built it this way.

It may be that way because fuel issues related to pumps and filters are not common issues. Lexus did a great job engineering many of the parts on the 400's. I would bet the fuel pressure regulator is the problem and not the pump.

my owners manual warns not to let the fuel get to low or risk a misfire. Is it possible this happened? The book is saying to take to dealer in this event. I would check the timing. Just my opinion.

I know this sounds crazy, but I had the same no power/ no torque symptoms, you would never believe in a million years what the problem turned out to be!!

VERY likely that your ECM needs new capacitors, please see my post here

SkulCracka hit it square in the head. Turns out that because of the way the injectors fire and each coil feeds certain cylinders on each bank,it allowed the engine to start, idle and drive under low power. The fuel smell was from raw fuel that was going thru non-firing plugs cylinders. After watching some post on various blogs decided to try and test for a bad coil. With the top coil active the engine would almost crank over but with the one in front of the head by itself nothing.Find hard to believe that Toyota put it in a spot that would be subjected to oil.water and grime.Changed it today and the car is back to normal.Amazing wouldn't you say? I got this car for $800 and a mountain bike.It has only a 114580 miles on it. Nice!

Actually he said left it running while fueling. But I still say a fuel injection car can't run on fumes and shouldn't collect junk from the bottom of the tank as some have suggested.I think moisture killed it.Had the same woes with an Astro after heavy rains.
