Default 1999 LS400 Tilt function not working, Please Help

My tilt motor is not working properly, in and out is fine. I took out the motor and working fine without any load, but once I put everything back together, it get stuck right a way. Any idea? Weak motor or ECU bad capacitor in there? I searched thru the forum, noone seem to have answer. 1999 LS400 tilt motor assembly is same as LS430 I think. Please advise. Thanks in advance.

I'm not remembering if the "hose washer" fix to reposition one of the spockets applies to the 98-00 LS like it does to the earlier ones - did you find the forum threads about that .... and the videos on YouTube?

negative, you're wrong. it only works for the 98, the 99 and 00 have the same assembly as the ls430s. to fix this you would need to replace the whole motor.

I just finished disassembling the tilt motor on my 99 and it is driven by magnets. The process was relatively easy and in my case it failed because the telescopic motor failed. After stripping the unit apart I made sure everything moved freely then noticed what seemed like burnt dust build up in the outer housing. I cleaned that up and reassembled and YAHTZEE! it works. It does lock up though since I haven't repaired the telescopic motor yet.

My 99 also is magnet and not gear driven. I have the same exact problem. Telecopic works but tilt does not. Have not pulled it out yet. I wonder if there was a mid year change? The fix shown in the FAQ did not apply to my motor.

For those who complained about the problems, a TSIB dated May 19, 2000 involved replacing both the tilt and telescope motors and some other parts on all 1999 and some 2000 LS400's. Since my 2000 LS was manufactured in June 2000, the redesigned parts were installed at the factory.

If only I could get the dealer to honor the TSIB now.... I'm sure mine were never done under warranty.

I hit it on the ground on the bolt side a few-ten-times on the bolt end (be careful not to mess up the threads.) And now it works. For how long? I don't know.. Even the memory settings work now.
