Dont sweat it, the hardest part is pulling off all the plastic on top lol. It's easier than changing a tire

 

Well the ect sensor was changed, not too much of an issue there, but OMG the fuel filter was lengthy! Started at 6 and finished at 9 or so. I made the mistake of putting in several gallons prior to the job. Every last drop of those damn gallons drained out of the filter! Almost stripped one of the nuts because it was acting stupid! URGH!!! So anyway, I FINALLY get it off, switch filters and test the car. I had some seepage, so I turned off car and tightened. 2nd time was good. Here is the changes from the two services;

Idle smoothed out
MUCH BETTER acceleration from 1 into 2 and 2 - 3. Still some gurgling but it will at least it will merge into an intersection quicker
No more hurky jerky at stops

I still have some hesitation and I believe it may be due to either the plugs, wires or timing, SOMETHING is causing the "jigajigajiga" sound when I initially pull off and when I rev/go into gears. Truthfully, it sounds like a car/turbo car running open exhaust, just not as loud and raspy. Its hard to trouble shoot since I have no idea what signs of timing issues are. I dont drive it all the time and too far just yet, but I may go by the dealership and have them test the timing as although the original over says he did the timing belt and timing settings right, he may have dropped the ball.

But 2 broken nails, a shirt doused in gasoline,1 eye ball slapped with a drop of gas and tools covered in spatter, I did EVERYTHING by myself and it was the 1st time working on a lexus. I use to watch my dad work on rotarys so I know a few things.

 

Im going to see if I can have a flow test or something on the exhaust and see if theres any blockage.

 

Well I got good news and bad news. Good news is I got some ignition coils, ran them and the car opened up great, then loud chugging and hesitation was gone. Bad news is I was so eager to install them that I relocated ignition coil 1 and stretched/twisted the almost 300k wiring going to the bottom of the coil connector, so much that I snapped the wires. NOW, when I try to turn it over, it will crank, turn over for a second then cut off. Is there any way I can fix the break? Maybe solder or some flux or electrical tape etc? If not, is there a way I can buy a new connector, then just splice the wire somewhere and redo the harness? I need some ideas because the lex is on the side of the road. Thanks guys!

 

you or any auto-electrician can cut/extend/solder/heatshrink the wire back together.

 

I dont TOUCH electrical wiring and I am not able to posted a wanted or service ad in the classifieds. Guess it will be craigslist or a formal call for help here.

If you snapped the wiring going to a connector then the easiest thing to do is find your car at a salvage yard and cut or have them cut that cable off for you. Of course, leave lead wire on the connector. Go to radio Shack of similar and buy a cable crimping kit. Comes with the crimps and crimp / wire stripper. Then just match your colors and wire the new one in.

 

After finding no replacements from the junkyards I've called, the countless on holds, the ignorance of the local parts stores and a no call return from johnson lexus in raleigh, I was forced to take off the heels and get dirty again. This is the end result. Mind you, I have NEVER done ANY KIND OF WIRING to a car...



Relocated ignition coil 1 near the battery for the moment. After I can get someone to help do the s\heat shrink and fine clean up of the wiring, the rest of the remove and install of the old then replacement coil can begin.

 

working wiring is better than non-working wiring. at least now you can drive it to an electrician's shop.

 

Good work. You got this far, I think you can finish it up. Just take your time.
