Replacing side mirror glass
Hello,
My driver's side rear-view mirror of my '94 got hit in a hit and run. Mirror itself is okay, but the glass portion of it shattered and plastic piece popped out. I still have the "guts" of the mechanism intact.
I bought a spare LS400 mirror, it has glass and everything in there. Is there a special trick to popping off the plate with the glass and transplanting it into my old mirror? It would be nice to finally have it mounted, I've been without it for a few months now.
Thank you much,
Stan

there is no trick you just have to yank on the mirror very hard than it will pop off. when i first did it i though i was going to break something lol. than just take the mirror and push hard to pop it back in.
Hi, just joined - literally to post this response to those in the position that I was, some lovely person decided that they would steal my mirror rather than buy a new one for their car (I assume).
In any case whatever their motive they left me with the potential of having to pay nearly £300 plus fitting costs to get my mirror replaced.
I went to E bay - brought a replacement, used the fitting technique described on here and am happy with the £20.00 it cost me!
Still annoyed that someone stole mine rather than do what I had to do, but thanks to this thread, I saved a pocket of cash, fitting my second hand mirror in under 5 minutes.
It does take some force to get the mirror out (the one I bought was in a full housing) so don't be afraid to use a bit of effort.
Thanks to the site and those who provide.
Regards from the UK.

Good to know. Whoever owned mine before me had one of those STUPID little convex mirrors glued on the drivers side it at some point, and at another point they pried it off and damaged the bejesus out of the auto tinting feature. Now some of it is normal, and a small circular spot is permanently dark with a funny dis-colored brown area around it.

Or can you just order from lexus?
I searched before when I needed glass and all I could find was crapy mirror that you stick to the busted one.
I ended up buying a set of complete mirrors off of ebay.
Not exactly related to the 1LS mirrors, but on my 2.5LS, both of my mirrors have this weird "blue bleeding" effect going on. If you've ever pressed down on an LCD screen, you'll understand what I'm talking about here. Anybody have any experience with that?
