Default 1996 LS400 keyless remote

Never use keyless remote when bought 1996 LS400, just got used one from Ebay:
FCC ID : HYQWDT-C
CANADA: 1551 K1420
CANADA: 210

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Note: there are two FCC ID # for the 1996 model
1. HYQ1512P
2. HYQWDTC
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Follow instruction of repair manual as below:

To begin with, the vehicle should be as follows
- The key is not inserted in the ignition key cylinder
- Driver's door is OPEN (other doors are CLOSED)
- Driver's door is UNLOCKED

1. Insert the key into the ignition key cylinder, then remove it.

2. Within 40 seconds: Using the door control switch (for manual operation) move the switch 5 times to LOCK/UNLOCK at approximately 1 second intervals (so in this step, hit the lock button on the driver's door, then the unlock button a second later, and repeat 5 times)

3. Close the driver's door, then open it

4. Repeat step 2, again within 40 seconds

5. Insert the key into the ignition cylinder

6. Turn the ignition switch (the key) from ON to LOCK at approximately 1 second intervals for 1 - 5 times, depending on which mode..

Add mode - 1 time
Rewrite mode - 2 times
Confirmation mode - 3 times
Erase(Prohibition) mode - 5 times

7. Remove the key from the ignition key cylinder

8a. If add, rewrite, or erase mode have been selected:

The car should now lock and unlock the door itself, the number of times depending on which mode you selected. The number will be the same number you used to select the mode. So if you chose add, then the car will lock and unlock once, if you chose rewrite, then the car will lock and unlock twice...

8b. The car will lock/unlock itself at 2 second intervals for each set of code programmed into the car.

9. Press the transmitter switch for at least 1 second

10. The wireless door lock ECU automatically performs LOCK-UNLOCK once at a 1 second interval to inform the technician that it has received the signal from the transmitter

11. Close the driver's door, then open it.

12. Press the transmitter switch for at least 1 second

13. The car will LOCK-UNLOCK one or twice at 1 second intervals. If it LOCK-UNLOCK's once, then the it is completed. If it LOCK-UNLOCK's twice, then it has not been completed because the ECU didn't receive the same code from steps 9 and 12 or when selecting add mode, a recognition code indicating registration completed was already received.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, my problem is I can’t pass step 8a/b.

Keyless remote is good condition as checking procedure in repair manual.

Anyone can advise how to solve this problem ?

probably, one of your actuator motors is weak and will not complete the 10 lock/unlock functions to allow it to be programed.... that is my condition in my 96..... get some one to watch the other lock buttons to see where the failure is.

I hear definitely sounds when I push lock/unlock buttons in step 2 & 4. And I also haven't any problem when using lock/unlock buttons.

Can you describe more details how you solve this problem ? Thank you in advanced.

hi billydpowe,

I have a repair manual of 2000 LS400 that the Seller told it can apply for 1996, but I found there're some points are different with AllData and MitchellOnDemand, especially on Wireless Door Lock Control System section for inspection and diagnosis. Do you have experience on this matter ?

only basic chassis stuf will cross over, the electronics between the '98-00 and '95-96/97 cars are very different.

I have not used AllData and MitchellOnDemand, since I retired and sold my shop, in 1996. and Wireless Door Lock Control System were not around.
but the door lock actuators (small motors) on these cars fail or malfunction at times. Depending on your ability, this is minor or major... search and read some threads on the subject to see what is best for you.........

did you find one that failed to complete the 10 function lock/unlock operation?

actualy, all actuators are working well. I'm finding any problem of Door Receiver Control box because the relating others (transmitter, keyless switch and wireless buzzer) are in good condition which checked by repair manual, or AllData, or MitchellOn Demand
